New Loan Periods

Received via email:

Why are book renewals for 20 days only & not 30 days as it use to be?

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. The original loan period, as well as the renewal extension, has been changed from 28 days to 21 to conform with a standardization agreed upon by the members of the automation network to which we belong. There were many problems caused by resource sharing among libraries with differing loan periods. While the loan period is now shorter on some items, this will ensure that we continue to have easy access to the collections of our 40+ sister libraries in the network. It also shortens the wait time for popular items, which can often be a benefit.
